Dhaka - Chief Justice Mr. Prakash Man Singh Raut held a bilateral meeting with Chief Justice of Bangladesh Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh this morning.
The meeting focused on the legal and judicial practices of both Nepal and Bangladesh, identifying shared approaches and experiences. Discussions covered ongoing judicial reforms in both countries aimed at enhancing efficiency and ensuring more expeditious justice delivery to the people.
Chief Justice Mr. Raut was accompanied by Justice Ms. Sapana Pradhan Malla, Justice Mr. Binod Sharma, Chief Registrar Mr. Bimal Paudel, and Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Mr. Ghanshyam Bhandari. All Justices of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh were present on the occasion.
Following the meeting, Chief Justice Mr. Raut co-presided over a hearing of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh alongside Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed.
Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed highlighted the long-standing and cordial relationship between the judiciaries of Nepal and Bangladesh, while Chief Justice Raut expressed appreciation for the opportunity to observe court proceedings and emphasized the close judicial ties between the two nations.
In the afternoon, the Nepalese delegation participated in a thematic discussion on “Roadmap, Roadshow, Legislative Changes, Judicial Integrity and Partnership Building,” led by Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed. He shared progress made in Bangladesh’s ongoing judicial reform initiatives and outlined recent positive changes implemented across various courts.
Chief Justice Raut led a session on “Delivering Justice while Managing Crisis,” highlighting Nepal’s experiences in maintaining judicial integrity and service delivery under challenging circumstances. Justice Ms. Sapana Pradhan Malla also shared insights on the structural reforms undertaken by the Supreme Court of Nepal.
In a separate session, Justice Ms. Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Ms. Farah Mahbub of Bangladesh jointly moderated a discussion on “Digitalization, Gender Justice, Specialization of Courts, Judicial Independence and Integrity.” A delegation of women Justices from the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh also participated in the discussion.
Justice Malla underscored Nepal’s commitment to advancing gender equality within the judiciary and emphasized the importance of women’s meaningful representation and leadership in the justice sector. Justice Mahbub, in her remarks, presented Bangladesh’s strategic roadmap and recent judicial reform measures.
Later in the evening, Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed hosted a dinner in honor of Chief Justice Mr. Raut and his delegation.
