Kathmandu | April 27, 2025
The NEPSE index posted a modest gain of 3.58 points (0.13%) on Sunday, closing at 2,661.60. The index fluctuated between an intraday low of 2,657.37 and a high of 2,684.51, reflecting a more resilient session compared to Thursday. Market turnover soared to NPR 10.87 billion, with 28,438,428 shares exchanged across 314 companies, pushing the total market capitalization up to NPR 4.42 trillion. Despite the marginal index gain, market breadth showed notable improvement, with 104 stocks advancing compared to 141 decliners, an improvement from Thursday’s 83 advances against 161 declines.

Sectoral Trends: Mixed Movements Across Sectors

Sectoral performance was mixed throughout the session. The Investment sector led the day's gains with a 1.77% rise, supported by strength in the Trading sector (+1.18%) and the Hydropower sector (+1.06%). These sectors had also outperformed in Thursday’s session.

Conversely, the Finance sector dragged the market lower with a decline of -1.05%, followed by the Microfinance index, which slipped -0.94%. This contrasting movement across sectors signals a cautiously optimistic sentiment among investors.

Stock Movers: Top Gainers and Losers

The trading day saw NMIC and CREST locking in 9.99% gains, hitting the upper circuit once again, continuing their strong performance streak over the past few sessions. Other notable gainers included:

  • Bhugol Energy Development Company Ltd. (+7.63%)

  • Ngadi Group Power (+7.55%)

  • Sanima Mai Hydropower Ltd. (+7.19%)

On the flip side, Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. hit a 10% negative circuit, emerging as the biggest loser of the day. Other significant decliners were:

  • Narayani Development Bank (-5.02%)

  • Upper solu hydro electricity company limited (USHEC), Himalayan Hydropower (HHL), and  (SHLB) also featured among the top losers.

Turnover Leaders

The highest turnover was observed in:

  • Ngadi group power limited  (NGPL) – NPR 861.7 million

  • NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd. (NRN) – NPR 563.8 million

  • Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd. (RADHI) – NPR 562 million

  • Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Ltd. (HIDCL) – NPR 527.4 million

  • HIDCL Promoter Share (HIDCLP) – NPR 478.2 million

Conclusion:

Despite the modest gain in the NEPSE index, today’s session reflected an encouraging improvement in overall market sentiment. Higher turnover, better market breadth, and continued strength in investment, trading, and hydropower sectors suggest underlying resilience. However, the presence of significant sectoral divergences, especially declines in the finance and microfinance sectors, points toward selective participation. Investors seem cautiously optimistic but remain watchful of sector-specific performances in the upcoming sessions.
