Manang -The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Nepal Mountain Instructors’ Association (NMIA), is jointly organizing a two-week ice climbing training under the 7th Ice Climbing Level One Program in Humde, Manang, from January 27 to February 5, 2026.
The program formally commenced with a soft opening in Kathmandu on January 23, where participants attended theoretical classes and outdoor orientation sessions in preparation for the field-based training in the high Himalayas.
The training aims to enhance technical ice-climbing skills, promote international safety standards, and support employment opportunities in the mountaineering sector. It aligns with Nepal’s long-term objective of providing safe, professional, and internationally competitive mountaineering services.
A total of 36 participants are taking part in the training under the supervision of 11 experienced instructors. The curriculum includes practical use of ice axes, crampons, harnesses, helmets, carabiners, belay devices, slings, and ropes, as well as rope fixing, anchor building, safety and protection systems, rescue techniques, and field-based applications relevant to high-altitude mountaineering.
NTB Senior Director Hikmat Singh Ayer and NTB Manager Bimal Kadel attended the field-based training in Humde, highlighting the commitment of NTB and NMIA to capacity building and professional development in the mountaineering sector.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive internationally recognized certification, which is expected to enhance their professional credibility and employment prospects in Nepal and abroad.
