Oman / The Embassy of Nepal, Muscat officially started to issue Approval/legalization of Labour Permit for those Nepali workers who are legally working in Oman and have not got Labour Permit from Nepal.
It was the first live enrollment for Legalization Labour Permit in Foreign Countries which was started on 31 January 2025 in Salalah, Oman. The Embassy organized a special program in Salalah from 31 January to 01 February 2025, which included interaction with the Ambassador, labor awareness, financial literacy, enrollment in the social security fund scheme, and Passport-Consular services. The provision of Legalization Labour Permit from the Embassy will greatly facilitate Nepali workers to receive several benefits as per the policy of the Government of Nepal.
Dornath Aryal, Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman and Surya Bahadur Khatri, Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment, jointly inaugurated the Legalization/Approval of Labor Permit to Nepali workers. The technical arrangements were made by Naresh Prasad Das, Computer Engineer from the Department.
During the program, the Ambassador shared information about the activities the Embassy accomplished in the past and the initiatives underway for the future. He expressed confidence that the Legalization of Labor Permit service would greatly help Nepali workers of this kind to take several benefits. The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of the social security fund, remittance flow through legal channels and requested to strictly follow the rules, regulations, tradition, culture of the host country. He responded to the questions raised by the attendees.
Director General Surya Bahadur Khatri congratulated everyone on the first-ever Legalization of Labor Permit provided by the Embassy abroad and shed light on its significance. He informed Nepali workers about the importance of obtaining labor approval and explained why one should not work abroad without approval, and responded to queries raised during the program.
The Nepali Workers expressed their happiness as the Embassy regularly provides services such as passport renewal, legalization of labor permit, and various other services in Salalah itself, located about 1100 kilometers from Muscat. Representatives from the Nepali Social Club, volunteers, and Nepali associations actively participated and supported the program.
Moreover, an interaction program was held at Nepal House, Muscat to begin the process Legalization of Labor Permit on 03 February 2025. During the event, the Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman and Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment interacted on topics such as labor, economic diplomacy, and the concerns of Nepali workers. Representatives from Nepali organizations in Oman, bank officials, volunteers, social activists, and other distinguished guests raised various concerns and provided suggestions, which were addressed during the program.
Nepali workers, who are currently working in Companies in Oman without obtaining labor permit from Nepal, can obtain Legalization Labor Permit at the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat. For the Legalization Labor Permit, workers need to create their profile through the FEIMS system, upload documents, submit an online application and thereafter, they must appear in person at the Embassy for biometrics (photo and fingerprint).
The Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment, Surya Bahadur Khatri, and Computer Engineer Naresh Prasad Das arrived in Oman on 30 January 2025, participated in the programs from 31 January to 03 February, and departed from Oman on 04 February 2025. Both events were conducted by the Second Secretary Bishesh Kumar Sah at the Embassy.
